Do you also take over an existing shop?
Yes, that is the norm. I first look at the shop on a staging copy, bring WordPress, WooCommerce and the plugins up to a clean state and then work on what you need. I only suggest a rebuild if the existing shop can no longer be sensibly repaired.

With WooCommerce you pay no monthly platform fee, you can connect any interface you like (ERP, CRM) and design the shop freely. Shopify is quicker to set up and takes server operations off your hands, but in return you are tied to the platform’s apps and limits. For shops with custom logic, B2B pricing or inventory management, I generally recommend WooCommerce.

WooCommerce is secure as long as it is regularly updated and configured correctly. Additional security plugins such as Wordfence or All In One Security can further increase shop security.
